Roundworms symptoms
Sometimes there are no visible symptoms, and in
other more severe cases animals may exhibit signs of anemia,
constipation, weight loss, bulging abdomens, hair coats that lack
luster and shine, vomiting and diarrhea. If the roundworms have
infested the lungs the respiratory problems, coughing, and pneumonia
can also be present. Roundworms can also be transmitted to humans
from pets.
Roundworms treatment
Treatment of roundworms involves a rigorous
de-worming process of medications that work to kill the adult
roundworms in the host. Most of these medications are not effective
at killing the actual roundworm eggs, so repeated cycles are needed
to ensure the new adult worms that have hatched from eggs in the
host are also eliminated. Once this cycle of treatments is complete
it is recommended that regular preventative de-worming cycles are
maintained. Chance of re-infection is high due to the commonality
and prevalence of roundworms.
Roundworms prevention
A regular preventative de-worming cycle is
encouraged for all healthy pets. It is recommended that you check
the efficacy of de-worming medicines carefully as they are not
equal, and may target different species within the roundworm family.
To reduce the chance of re-infection and infection to humans:
Wash your hands thoroughly at all times
Keep your environment clean
Dont let cats use gardens or sandboxes as litter boxes
Control rodent (carrier) populations diligently
