Ticks transmit the widest variety of pathogens
of any blood sucking arthropod, including bacteria, rickettsiae,
protozoa, and viruses. Some human diseases of current interest in
the United States caused by tick-borne pathogens include Lyme
disease, ehrlichiosis, babesiosis, rocky mountain spotted fever,
tularemia, and tick-borne relapsing fever.
After the tick bite it may take a couple of
weeks to feel symptoms which may include:

shortness of breath

nausea and vomiting

flu and fever
-
numbness and weakness

rash or redness
-
confusion
-
joint pain and swelling

heart palpitations
Ticks treatment
Treatment of ticks involves careful removal of
the tick, cleaning the wound, and possible treatments and
medications for potential diseases carried by the tick.
To remove a tick:

cover hands with protective rubber gloves
-
use tweezers and concentrate on removing
the head portion of the tick

don't squeeze the body open
-
keep the tick in a jar in case disease
testing is required
